Natural organic weed killer?

I am preparing for spring. I want my lawn to look perfect, but with kids playing in it, I would prefer not to use any chemicals. Any ideas on some ways to keep a lawn weed free and looking sharp without harming my kids? We are buying a mulching mower to help fertilize the grass as we mow and we are buying a spin trim to keep it looking nice and neat.

vinegar will work good. dont use the stuff in the grocery store. its not strong enough. go to a garden center and ask for it. its about 3 times as strong as store bought and it does work. just spray it on.
